A short evening pause
3 steps for ending the day when your thoughts won't clock out
The day has ended, but you are still replaying a conversation or planning tomorrow. Give that thought somewhere to go before you put the phone down.
Try the exerciseA short pause. One manageable next step.
Some thoughts return because there is still a decision to make. Others need information you cannot get tonight. Naming which kind you are dealing with gives you a clearer way to leave it for later.
Try it now
Try this before bed.
Write the thought in one plain sentence.
Start with “I'm worried about…” or “I keep replaying…” You do not need the full story yet.
Choose what it needs.
Does it call for an action, acceptance of something you cannot change, or more information? Pick the closest fit.
Give tomorrow one small action.
Write down what you will do and when. Then take five slow, comfortable breaths or listen to a calming sound.
If the thought returns, you have a note to come back to and a time to act on it.
