For a thought that can wait
Before bed, decide which thought needs your attention now.
A thought can feel important without needing an answer tonight. One question can help you decide what to do with it.
Try the exerciseA short pause. One manageable next step.
It is easy to keep turning a problem over when the next useful action is not available until morning. Make that limit clear, and give yourself a specific place to pick it up again.
Try it now
Ask: “Can I act on this tonight?”
If you can, choose one small action.
Write a reminder, prepare what you need, or settle the part you can handle now.
If you cannot, set a time to revisit it.
“Tomorrow after breakfast” is more useful than “later.” Put the time beside the thought.
Bring your attention back to the room.
Notice the support of the bed or chair. Try a short breathing or grounding exercise if you would like some guidance.
You now have a plan for returning to the thought. Let that be enough for this moment.
